Hi Friends and fellow You Tubers. Part 1.of 3. This open reel to reel tape recorder is a very nice and provides excellent quality sound. History/ Technical: From Tim Smith (words adjusted by me) The 4000 Report L monitor offered four tape speeds (7½, 3¾, 1 and 15/16 ips), two heads and a 5" reel capacity plus a clear cover to keep the dust and dirt away from the tapes. This machine was very reminiscent of the Nagra 4. The Report Monitor 4000 boasted one backlit VU meter doubled as a volt meter to monitor battery strength. (five "D" cells were used). Rugged die-cast chassis construction was employed to survive difficult "out in the field" recording projects. Integrated power supply (also known as 'phantom power') was available at microphone input socket for condenser microphones. It featured fully electronic amplifier switching and a playback amplifier with balanced input. The built-in speaker could monitor left, right or both channels. The grey UHER Model 4400 Report Monitor was an older model while the dark brown cases signified a slightly more recent version. Still sought after by collectors and audiophiles, these units cost over 00 when new. In repairable condition these units command 0 to 0. In working condition but needing routine service and alignment you can expect to pay 0 to 0. If you are fortunate to find a fully restored unit operating to original manufacturers specifications, it's not uncommon to pay 0 or more. For used UHER recorders, parts ...
